The patented Swiss innovation of connected hand-washing systems, allows for massive water, soap and energy saving. And real-time monitoring
BIENNE, SWITZERLAND, April 11, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ — In line with their sustainability policy and their spirit of innovation, Jungfrau Railways has chosen a new resource-saving technology for their washrooms: The COMPACT hand-washing system from the Swiss company Smixin. The company from Biel has developed a 2-in-1 hand-washing system that saves water by 90%.
The Interlaken Ost railway station is a highly-frequented transfer point for travellers visiting the Jungfrau region and especially the Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe. This station is also the hub for many regional train and bus lines.
The cooperation between Smixin and Jungfrau Railways began with the installation of four Smixin Compact systems in the station’s washrooms in August 2017. 647,000 litres of water were already saved in the first six months. During the high season, people washed their hands with the Compact system 1,000 times a day. Consumption can be tracked thanks to Smixin’s unique application called “Supervision”, which links the systems to the cloud and provides remote control and remote management. This allows for control of the usage and water consumption for the systems.
In addition to the massive water savings, the Smixin systems also contribute to a significant reduction in cleaning time. Mr Seevaratnam, an employee at the Jungfrau Railways’ Interlaken Ost station explains: “Thanks to the dual functionality of the Smixin systems and the soap dispenser being located directly above the sink, which prevents soap from dripping, our daily cleaning time for the washrooms has been shortened considerably.”
Expansion of the installation of Smixin systems
The results at the Interlaken Ost station convinced the responsible at Jungfrau Railways. The company has also decided to equip the station Kleine Scheidegg with Compact systems.
Urs Mühlemann, Site Manager for the Infrastructure Department explained: “The experiences of the past seven months have shown us the reliability of the system. We also have the opportunity to measure system usage and water savings for the first time with connectivity and real-time alerts. This allows the soap to be refilled ahead of time to guarantee our users a first-class service.”
