Hire the right contractor by doing research, not based on online reviews

Online reviews can be inaccurate, misleading and sometimes fake. Consumers should do research and get referrals when hiring contractors to work on their home.

CALGARY, ALBERTA, CANADA, September 28, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ — In a digital world, one of the first things homeowners do when searching for a contractor to do work on their property is search for online reviews of the company. While online reviews can help give you an idea about the company, you should not rely on solely them when deciding on hiring a contractor.

Businesses know that consumers will look at online reviews when making a purchasing decision and see online reviews as a marketing opportunity, especially dishonest companies. Some companies will offer discounts and incentives to customers to write positive reviews and some might even hire people to post fake reviews. You can find advertisements on freelancer sites like Fiverr.com of people offering to write online reviews. The fact is, you cannot trust that consumer reviews are truthful or that they have not been manipulated in some way.

“Online reviews can be sketchy,” said Keith Riley, founder of RenovationFind.com. “It’s important that you do some digging and really research the company you’re going to hire. Check for licensing, insurance, WCB coverage and ask if you can talk to one of their previous customers or even go see the work they’ve done.”

Checking to see if a company is on RenovationFind.com is a good place to start. RenovationFind is a free online directory of pre-screened and reputable companies in the renovation industry. It is not a review site. All companies listed on RenovationFind have passed background checks, have proper licensing and insurance and are continually monitored to ensure they’re meeting standards. You can review an example of a RenovationFind contractor listing here: https://www.renovationfind.com/ab/calgary/Basement-Renovations

“Home renovations are a great investment, but you really have to be careful about who you hire to do them for you so you don’t get ripped off,” said Riley. “Check to see if the business is on RenovationFind. Then you’ll know they’ve passed our accreditation process and have everything in order and are a good choice for your project. Thorough research, comprehensive third-party background checks and customer referrals have more standing than online reviews.”

RenovationFind.com is a free online directory of trades, contractors and renovation companies that have passed a stringent screening and accreditation process. All companies listed on RenovationFind’s directory have been vetted and are continually monitored on seven important criteria including legal background checks, credit background checks, Better Business Bureau (BBB) membership, business license, business insurance and Workers Compensation Board (WCB) Coverage. Intero Real Estate Foundation and Intero Real Estate Services Support Two Major Grateful Garment Project Initiatives

Intero Real Estate Foundation has recently awarded The Grateful Garment Project $10,000 to help fund their Youth Incentive Program.

SAN JOSE, CA, UNITED STATES, September 28, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ — San Jose, CA, September 28, 2017 – The Grateful Garment Project announced that Intero Real Estate Foundation and Intero Real Estate Services are providing major support for two of its most important projects.

Intero Real Estate Foundation has recently awarded The Grateful Garment Project $10,000 to help fund their Youth Incentive Program. In addition, Intero Real Estate Services will partner with The Grateful Garment Project’s Operation emBRAce, which has the goal of collecting 20,000 sports bras to distribute to victims of sexual violence.

“The Intero Real Estate Foundation is a proud supporter of both of these programs. We have been so impressed with the amazing work The Grateful Garment does in our community,” said Lana Morin Pierce, President, Intero Real Estate Foundation. “The Intero Real Estate Foundation has been blessed to be able to provide numerous grants to The Grateful Garment through the years, thanks to the generosity of our agents and staff.”

The funds received from the Intero Real Estate Foundation will allow The Grateful Garment Project to expand a pilot program that already has proved highly successful in encouraging adolescent victims to return after their initial forensic examination. The grant will allow The Grateful Garment Project to purchase gift cards to be used as incentives to motivate adolescent victims to return for vital follow-up services.

“Young people often lack the emotional maturity and understanding required to comprehend the importance of follow up counseling appointments,” said The Grateful Garment Project Executive Director, Lisa J. Blanchard. “The repercussions of untreated sexual violence in adolescents and teens materializes in a myriad of ways including depression, PTSD, self-harming, eating and sleep disorders, substance abuse, dissociation and suicide.”

Intero Real Estate Services will be running awareness and sports bra collection drives in their Northern California locations. A listing of local Intero Real Estate Services offices can be found at www.interorealestate.com

Often, an individual who has been sexually violated is asked to surrender their clothing for evidence during the forensic examination so the clothing can be processed. Without new clothing available, many times these victims are provided hospital scrubs or gowns to wear home. These new bras will be made available at the hospitals where forensic examinations (aka rape kits) are completed.

“Sports bras are an essential part of returning dignity to victims of sexual violence,” said Ms. Blanchard. “However, they also are the least donated and most needed item we have. Sports bras provide the right level of comfort for victims who might have injuries.”

About The Grateful Garment Project

The Grateful Garment Project’s mission is to restore dignity to the victims of sexual violence, and was originally started in 2011 as a Capstone Graduation Project for founder Lisa J. Blanchard’s undergraduate degree. During a chance conversation with a stranger at a women's retreat, she learned that once a victim of sexual violence undergoes a SART exam (aka "Rape Kit"), she or he is often asked to surrender clothing for forensic evidence, leaving the victim with nothing to wear home except a disposable hospital gown or paper scrubs. Blanchard decided to start a clothing closet for the Santa Clara County SART facility located at Valley Medical Center in San Jose. Before her five-week project came to a close, she was approached by a representative from Santa Cruz County pleading for the same type of assistance. Thus, The Grateful Garment Project, as a nonprofit organization, was born. The Grateful Garment Project now provides resources to sexual violence service providers throughout California.
